The Laser industry is gaining ground in Wenling county of Taizhou, following the establishment of the world's largest laser manufacturing base.

Last year, Beijing Reci Laser Technology Co decided to construct a laser industrial park in Wenling which is estimated to have a cumulative output of eight billion yuan by 2025.

Construction on the park is currently underway and is expected to be completed in 2020.

The laser sector has been developing rapidly in China, bolstered by robust market demand, as the technology is increasingly being adopted in segments such as radar, medical cosmetology, display and illumination.

Given the potential of the laser industry, Wenling introduced the Reci industrial park in hopes of invigorating local economic growth, said an official from the Wenling government.

According to Lin, the park, with a planned area of approximately 550 mu (36.7 hectares), is situated in the north of the city and will form a complete laser industrial chain with Reci as the core.

Reci is an integrated optical enterprise specializing in the R&D and production of lasers. Its main products include CO2 laser tubes, radio frequency lasers, fiber lasers, fiber-coupled diode lasers and accessories for laser application.

According to Fang Hongbing, deputy head of the Zhejiang branch of Reci, laser processing technology has been widely adopted in manufacturing industries in China, since it has the potential to improve the precision of products and meet market demand for personalized products.

The laser industry was previously barely a blip on the radar in Wenling, but the city's great market demand could bolster its growth in the coming years.

Lin noted that from small crafts to large products, many industries in Wenling require laser technology, adding that its application in the processes of cutting, welding and measuring would greatly improve product precision and quality.

In a bid to boost the industry's growth in Wenling, a number of Reci's raw material suppliers are gradually relocating to Zhejiang from Beijing, with some having begun production already.

Yang Chensong, an official from the Wenling Economic Development Zone, said that Wenling's appeal for laser-related companies is huge, as the Longmeng port could help them save up to 50 percent on costs.

He also said that the local government aims to foster the laser industry into a pillar sector in Wenling within three to five years.

Statistics from Strategies Unlimited show that the scale of the global laser industry reached $13.75 billion in 2018.
