The one-week Taizhou embroidery - Yi embroidery exchange and training event ends in Taizhou, Zhejiang province on Dec 6.
Ebian Yi embroidery, a skill of Ebian Yi Nationality Autonomous County in Sichuan province, has a history of more than 2,000 years, and is listed as a provincial intangible cultural heritage. There are about 2000 Yi women working on Yi embroidery, and most of them are quite elderly.
The lack of specialized embroidery production and packaging enterprises and distributive channels as well as a unity of identification has limited the development of the local embroidery industry.
The government of the Ebian Yi Nationality Autonomous County attached great importance to the development of the Yi embroidery industry, and has set up a specialized group to develop it.
