The Taizhou Luantan contemporary drama, Zhuixingzhe, is set to grace the stage of the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing on July 10 and 11. This is the fourth appearance of the Taizhou Luantan Troupe from Taizhou, Zhejiang province, at this renowned venue.

The production pays homage to Chen Fangyun from Huangyan district, an academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and a laureate of the "Two Bombs, One Satellite" Achievement Medal.

The drama unfolds with Chen's departure from his hometown to pursue studies at Tsinghua University, culminating in his later years filled with nostalgia. It portrays his groundbreaking achievements, including tracking the launch of the world's first artificial satellite by the Soviet Union, overseeing the orbit control of the "Dongfanghong 1" satellite, and proposing the dual star positioning communication system, the precursor to the Beidou Navigation Satellite System.

The play conveys Chen's patriotic spirit through Taizhou Luantan opera, an intangible cultural heritage item, offering a unique blend of traditional opera and modern storytelling. It also integrates elements of Taizhou culture into the storyline, embodying the deep emotional connection between Chen and his hometown.

Audiences can expect to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Taizhou culture while gaining insight into Chen's legendary life. Tickets are now available on the website and WeChat account of the National Center for the Performing Arts.
