Taizhou's biopharmaceutical sector is rapidly evolving through new drug approvals, strategic alliances, and ongoing investments in research and manufacturing.

On July 29, Zhejiang Huahai Pharmaceutical's subsidiary Shanghai Huaota Biopharmaceutical announced that its self-developed Recibokibart injection, China's first domestically developed humanized monoclonal antibody targeting IL-36R, received approval for treating generalized pustular psoriasis. The approval marked a milestone in the company's transition toward innovative medicines.

Two days earlier, Zhejiang Hisun Pharmaceutical signed a global strategic partnership with the Ultra Gobi endurance race to promote pharmaceutical-grade joint health products for long-distance desert athletes.

Biopharmaceuticals have become one of Taizhou's leading industries after more than four decades of development. The city is transitioning from primarily producing active pharmaceutical ingredients to becoming a hub for innovative drug research, high-end medical devices, and intelligent manufacturing.

Taizhou's pharmaceutical sector accounts for about one-third of Zhejiang's active pharmaceutical ingredient exports and 10 percent of the national total. The city is home to more than 10 listed pharmaceutical companies.

The city aims to increase annual revenue from its pharmaceutical and healthcare industry to more than 100 billion yuan ($14.8 billion) by 2027.
