Eight writers from Burkina Faso, Portugal, Argentina, Hungary, Switzerland, Brazil, Australia, and New Zealand shared their impressions of a five-day visit to Huangyan district, Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province, at a media event on Sept 26.
The program formed part of the 2025 Shanghai Writing Program's first extended field trip outside Shanghai, linking Huangyan with global literary circles. Guided by Chinese writer Chen Danyan, the group experienced Huangyan's cultural landmarks and traditions, bringing local narratives into a broader literary context.
The writers explored multiple attractions, including the Huangyan Grottoes and the Huangyan Museum.
At the media event, Argentine poet Patricio Ferrari shared poems he wrote in Huangyan, inspired by the vibrancy of local life and the Xinqian night market. Australian Chinese poet Zhang Yilin said Huangyan's honey tangerines left a lasting impression. Swiss poet Rodolfo Hasler emphasized how distance encourages deeper understanding and fuels poetic creativity.
The exchange provided a platform for international dialogue and introduced Huangyan's stories to a global literary audience.
