Taizhou Port in East China's Zhejiang province handled a foreign trade cargo throughput of 244,000 metric tons in August, the highest monthly figure in its history, announced the port on Sept 2.
This year, the port's foreign trade business has expanded through diverse cargo types and shipping routes. New energy products, recycled metals, and coal have become key drivers of the growth in foreign trade volumes.
In terms of route expansion, Taizhou Port has strengthened international connections by combining its Japan and Vietnam lines. This created a logistics link where imports from Vietnam are transferred in Taizhou and then shipped to Japan, reducing the one-way delivery time to three days. The launch of sea-rail combined transport from Shangrao in Jiangxi province to the Middle East has also opened a new cross-border logistics channel.
Infrastructure upgrades have supported the record. In May, berths 2 and 3 at Toumen port area were upgraded to improve load capacity, handling facilities, and turnaround.
Three foreign trade coal vessels recently docked there for the first time since the upgrade, proving the enhanced capacity and paving the way for expanded bulk cargo operations.
