Taizhou charts new path in foreign trade

Print PrintForeign trade in Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province, is thriving, with significant advancements in cross-border e-commerce.
According to the city's municipal bureau of commerce and Taizhou Customs, total imports and exports reached 147.77 billion yuan ($20.61 billion) in the first half of 2025, marking a 12.2 percent increase year-on-year. Exports rose 12.7 percent to 135.45 billion yuan, while imports grew 7.3 percent to 12.33 billion yuan.
Exports to ASEAN, Latin America, and Africa surged by 25.4 percent, 20.3 percent, and 30.5 percent, respectively, far exceeding provincial averages. A significant development is the new used car export base in Horgos, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, which serves as a gateway to international markets. Already, 40 companies are active in the zone, shipping dozens of used vehicles monthly.
Taizhou's manufacturing is also gaining attention at global trade shows. The city hosted 345 overseas exhibitions in the first half of the year, with 1,202 local companies sending 3,199 participants. "Made in Taizhou" is transitioning from price competition to technology-driven growth.
Cross-border e-commerce also experienced explosive growth, with export value up 85.4 percent, elevating Taizhou to fourth in the province. Platforms like "Yun Taizhou" are enabling traditional industries to access new markets. The launch of Alibaba's first global sourcing center in Jiaojiang district further enhances the city's e-commerce infrastructure.
With support from national-level development zones and pilot programs, Taizhou is accelerating its transformation into a globally connected trade hub.
