The mascot Wang Chao and the medals for the fifth Zhejiang Provincial Sports Congress were unveiled on July 8 in Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province.

Wang Chao was inspired by a small octopus native to the mudflats along Taizhou's coast, known for standing upright when tides rise. This reflects local marine culture and highlights the octopus as a prized seafood delicacy. The name "Wang Chao" symbolizes Taizhou's seafaring spirit and pioneering drive.

Taizhou created 30 different versions of Wang Chao in various sporty poses — such as playing table tennis or paddleboarding — to promote the event's theme "Everyone loves, knows, and participates in sports for health".

The medals for the congress were inspired by boneless lanterns in Xianju county, a traditional local intangible cultural heritage.

Featuring an impressive three-layer foldable design, the outer ring is engraved with ocean wave patterns symbolizing coastal vitality. The middle displays iconic Taizhou landmarks, while the innermost layer combines light and swirling blue-purple glitter, offering a visually dynamic effect.
