Sweet taste of summer: Huangyan's peaches hit peak season

Print PrintIn the sweltering summer heat, the peaches in Huangyan district, Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province, are filling the local markets with juicy freshness.

Xu Guangyue, a local grower, is busy harvesting the Zhong Pan No 11 variety at the Huaguo Mountain Orchard in Xishang village. "We have already shipped out over 20 boxes this morning, and another 10 are scheduled for midday," she said.

Xu introduced this premium variety six years ago from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and it quickly gained popularity for its large size, golden flesh, rich sweetness, and long shelf life.
Her orchard spans about 13.33 hectares, where she and her husband have cultivated peaches for two decades. This year's favorable weather has led to a yield increase of over 30 percent, with expected profits reaching 10,000 yuan (about $1,394.53) per mu (0.07 hectare).

Xishang village now boasts over 30 peach-farming households and nearly 33.33 hectares of peach orchards. The village aims to develop peach products such as peach resin as well as promote agri-tourism by leveraging local scenic spots and homestays to boost rural development and shared prosperity.
This year, Huangyan's peach cultivation covers approximately 189.33 hectares, with an estimated total output of 3,262 metric tons.
