A grand theater in Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province, began construction on June 17.
Situated by Dongshan Lake, the theater's design draws inspiration from a famous line by Tang Dynasty (618–907) poet Du Fu. Its architecture embraces a "cloud-sea fusion" concept, harmonizing natural landscapes with traditional Chinese aesthetics. Visually, the structure looks like a floating cloud above the lake, reflecting Taizhou's coastal and mountainous background.
Spanning 70,000 square meters with a floor plan of 58,000 sq m, the venue will feature a 1,500-seat theater, a 600-seat concert hall, a 350-seat multi-purpose hall, art exhibition areas, and open urban space.
Designed as a hub for cultural performances and international exchanges, the project overcame challenges in planning, design, land acquisition, and approvals.
Local officials emphasized a commitment to safety and quality, vowing to deliver a landmark cultural symbol for Taizhou's urban landscape.
