At the plant operated by manufacturer Shubang (Taizhou) New Material Technology — located in Yuhuan district of Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province — four automated production lines operated at full capacity on June 6, converting glass tailings into high-performance thermoplastic composite panels.
These materials are crafted from recycled fibers and plastic, offering strength and cost efficiency — reducing expenses by 30 percent.
Glass tailings — once treated as low-value waste or buried — are now transformed into eco-friendly materials. The breakthrough came from a research team led by Professor Peng Huaxin from Zhejiang University, solving key issues in tailing surface treatments and composite compatibility.
The project began production in February and now offers over 20 product types used in construction and industrial applications.
What's more, orders have been secured through July, with first quarter output topping 2 million yuan ($278,294). The company plans to expand to 12 production lines, aiming for annual output of 30 million yuan within three years.
Elsewhere, the Yuhuan factory run by W-Innovation Technology (Hangzhou) is also running at full speed, fulfilling robotic system orders from Thailand.
Founded by Professor Kong Xiaowu of Zhejiang University, the company focuses on robotics and intelligent automation systems. It's delivered nearly 10,000 robotic units and holds a record of over 2,000 robots deployed by a single client.
Overall, these developments fully reflect Yuhuan's strong support for emerging industries like robotics and new materials through talent recruitment and industrial integration strategies.
