This recognition not only honors Bao's artistry but also underscores the remarkable rebirth of the 400-year-old regional opera form, Taizhou luantan, a traditional opera in Taizhou, once considered endangered.
From Wuyi county in Jinhua, Zhejiang, Bao joined the newly reestablished Taizhou Luantan Troupe in 2005 after graduating, drawn in by the troupe's inaugural leader. The troupe was resurrected through a unique public-private model, with local companies and governments jointly investing to support its operations.

The early years were tough. A devastating bus accident nearly broke up the troupe in 2010. Bao, only 21 at the time, emerged as a pillar of resilience, declaring: "If I'm doing opera in this life, it must be with Taizhou luantan." The troupe rebounded in just 27 days, staging seven plays and turning trauma into strength.

Bao's ascent as a leading actress began with her 2016 win at the Zhejiang Drama Awards. Her powerful portrayals in original productions brought her critical acclaim and national recognition.
In the troupe's 20th year since its rebirth, Bao winning the Plum Blossom Award stands as a shining symbol of perseverance, artistry, and the enduring power of traditional Chinese opera.
