Location: Taizhou is a coastal city in East China's Zhejiang province, 300 kilometers south of Shanghai and 230 kilometers southeast of Hangzhou, the provincial capital. It is among the 27 major cities in the Yangtze River Delta region.
GDP: 665.64 billion yuan ($91.40 billion) (2024)
Permanent residents: 6.729 million (2024)
Area: 10,050.43 square kilometers
Economy:
Taizhou's GDP witnessed an increase of 6 percent year-on-year in 2024. The per capita disposable income reached 64,424 yuan, up 5.5 percent compared with the same period in 2023. The per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents reached 77,582 yuan and 42,575 yuan, up by 5 percent and 6 percent, respectively.
Administrative divisions:
Taizhou governs three districts, three counties, and three county-level cities — Jiaojiang district, Huangyan district, Luqiao district, Tiantai county, Xianju county, Sanmen county, Linhai city, Wenling city, and Yuhuan city.
Laurels:
In November 2015, Taizhou was listed among the second group of national comprehensive pilot areas for urbanization.
In April 2016, Taizhou joined the Sino-German industrial cities alliance and began construction on the Sino-German industrial cooperation park.
In November 2017, it won the title of national civilized city.
In 2024, Taizhou was listed among the "2024 Happiest Cities in China" at the Happiest Cities Forum 2024. This is the ninth time that Taizhou has received the honor.
