Nestled about 30 kilometers west of Tiantai county's urban center in Taizhou, Zhejiang province, the Hanshan scenic area is a treasure trove of ancient tales and natural wonders.
According to local lore, the revered monk Hanshan from the Tang Dynasty (618-907) secluded himself in the area for over seven decades, leading to the name Hanshan Mountain.
As visitors venture into the area, they are greeted by a landscape adorned with massive stones, creating a grand spectacle. These paired boulders, whether gazing at each other from a distance or closely entwined, add to the area's enchanting allure.
The site boasts a plethora of caves, some appearing as mere crevices but revealing hidden marvels within. Observing these unique rock formations up close evokes awe at the wonders of nature's craftsmanship.
A standout feature is Longxu Cave. Its gourd-shaped entrance leads to a cavern housing a colossal golden bell-like structure, with a perpetual cascade of spring water flowing from above.
The experience culminates with a visit to Hanyan Cave. A waterfall descends from a towering cliff to the left of the cave, creating a breathtaking display, which is especially captivating during the sunset hours.
