Several prominent tea enterprises from Tiantai county, Taizhou, Zhejiang province, recently showcased a variety of exceptional teas from Tiantai Mountain at the 31st Shanghai International Tea Expo, highlighting the region's rich tea heritage to a global audience.

Tiantai boasts a long history of tea production and is renowned for its association with Chinese tea culture and famous teas like Tiantai Yunwu tea, Tiantai yellow tea, and Longjing tea.

The county's tea gardens cover a total area of 103,000 mu (6,866.67 hectares), with an output of 3,053 metric tons valued at 470 million yuan ($66.15 million), accounting for 52 percent of Taizhou's total tea production.

Driven by a growing focus on health and diversification in the domestic tea market, Tiantai has been pursuing differentiated development in the tea industry.

With over a decade of efforts, Tiantai has managed to develop a new variety of yellow tea called "Zhonghuang No 1", which is characterized by its unique taste and high nutritional content. It was officially registered by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in 2019.

In recent years, Tiantai's tea enterprises have embraced high-tech equipment and new technologies in tea production to transform the intangible tea-making experience into controllable technological parameters.

The county has also prioritized the construction of ecological tea gardens and standardized tea factories, promoting green prevention and control technologies and automation in tea production.

Furthermore, it has organized skills competitions and professional training sessions to strengthen talent in its tea industry. Over 3,000 tea industry professionals have been trained, and Tiantai has garnered more than 20 awards in provincial and national skills competitions.
