At the Senran High-Tech Agricultural Park in Tiantai county, Taizhou, Zhejiang province, big mangoes in red protective bags have recently been dazzling visitors, promising a fruitful harvest.

This year marks the fourth year of mango cultivation in the park, culminating in a long-awaited bumper harvest, said Xu Yongzhong, deputy director of the park.

The mangoes in the park have been ripening since mid-July and currently it is the peak harvest season. It is expected that the yield will exceed 10,000 kilograms from over 20 mu (1.33 hectares) of mango trees.

The secret to successfully cultivating tropical mangoes in Tiantai lies in mastering the temperature, according to Xu. The optimal temperature range for mangoes, 10 C to 35 C, is maintained in the specially constructed greenhouses with double-layered films and adjustable windows for temperature control.

Mango trees in the park grow in a substrate rather than soil, which provides essential nutrients and solves the problem of trees unaccustomed to local climate. Alongside physical temperature control measures, the park has introduced intelligent systems like integrated water-fertilizer irrigation, reducing labor costs while ensuring precise control.

To enhance mango quality, workers in the park have invited experts to provide on-site guidance and gone abroad to learn about field management. This year, they are investing in a high-pressure misting system. "The yield is expected to double next year, and the appearance and quality of fruits will also be significantly improved," said Xu.

In addition to mangoes, the park is exploring cultivation techniques for over 10 tropical fruits, including lychee and starfruit.
