At 7 am on May 29, a drone carrying large yellow croakers took off from Wangfu Reef on Dachen Island and landed at the Taizhou Bay New Area Airport in Taizhou, Zhejiang province. This inaugurated the first land-island drone logistics route in the province.

The 33-kilometer route from Wangfu Reef to the airport saw the successful transport of 30 kilograms of frozen large yellow croakers in just 25 minutes despite a strong breeze on the island.

"Our drone can take off and land vertically without a runway. It features a long range and strong wind resistance. Delivery time can be reduced to within half an hour, compared with over two hours by ship," said Ding Chunyong, deputy general manager of the Beihang Changying Aviation Technology (Taizhou) Co.

To cater to varying transport needs, future plans involve regular transportation of island goods and the introduction of drones capable of carrying up to 500 kg, according to Ding.

Taizhou Bay New Area, with its focus on the drone industry, houses 78 companies in the drone industrial chain, making it a key player in the region's low-altitude economy.

The newly opened drone logistics route is the first "locally made, locally flown" drone application scenario in the province, signifying a milestone for the drone industry in both Taizhou and the province.

The drone logistics routes will be further developed to better promote the vigorous development of the yellow croaker industry and other related industries on Dachen Island.
