The waxberry from Linhai in Taizhou, Zhejiang province was included in the 2024 National Directory of Famous, Special, and Superior New Agricultural Products, as recently announced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

As one of the largest waxberry production bases in Zhejiang, Linhai boasts a cultivation area of 110,000 mu (7,333.33 hectares), with an annual output of 40,000 metric tons and nearly 200 million yuan ($27.68 million). Linhai waxberry is also a national geographical indication product in China.

One superior variety of local waxberry in Linhai is called "early big waxberry" because it features large fruits which mature early with high quality, easy for storage. Another variety, called Dongkui waxberry, is characterized by its exceptionally large fruits, bright color, and a balanced sweet and sour taste.

There are three towns in Lihai with waxberry planting areas exceeding 10,000 mu. Among them, Baishuiyang town was awarded the title of "Hometown of Waxberries in Zhejiang".
