In recent years, Luba Electromechanical Technology Co has witnessed remarkable growth in the export of its self-developed solar pumps, which reflects the tenacity and vitality of foreign trade in Wenling, Taizhou, Zhejiang province.

Wenling's first quarter foreign trade exports ranked first in Taizhou, reaching 9.57 billion yuan ($1.33 billion), an increase of 11.8 percent.

Luba Technology, a national high-tech enterprise based in Wenling, focuses on producing new energy photovoltaic water pumps, with over 90 percent of its products exported to regions like Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

"Our self-developed solar pump has seen a burst in the last three years. The output value has soared to 150 million yuan in 2023 from a few million in 2019," said Chen Jianli, the company's general manager.

Chen attributes their success to continuous innovation and product enhancements tailored to diverse markets. "For example, considering the local circumstances in Afghanistan, we developed affordable, single-function, but efficient solar pumps for them," said Chen.

For years, Wenling has endeavored to drive its enterprises to overseas markets under the Belt and Road Initiative. Exports to countries involved in the initiative hit 4.82 billion yuan in the first quarter, accounting for 50.3 percent of the total. In established markets, the city achieved an export of 1.39 billion yuan to the European Union and 1 billion yuan to the United States.
