The Sanmen Nuclear Power Plant has been a significant contributor to both the economic and environmental landscapes in China since it commenced operations in 2018.

As of 12:47 pm on April 9, the facility had generated a total of 100 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity. This achievement translates to a conservation of approximately 28.6 million metric tons of standard coal and a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions by over 74 million tons, offering substantial environmental benefits to the nation.

Situated in Jianqiao town within Taizhou's Sanmen county, the project is designed to host six advanced pressurized water reactor nuclear power units, each with a capacity of 1 million kilowatts. The construction is strategically organized into three phases, with the first phase's two units being connected to the grid for commercial operation in the latter half of 2018. Since then, the two units have maintained safe operation for five and a half years.

Upon the completion of all six units, the plant's total installed capacity will hit 7.5 million kW, with an anticipated annual electricity generation exceeding 60 billion kWh. This substantial increase in capacity is projected to result in an annual reduction of 45 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions, thereby making a significant contribution to the overhaul of the energy mix in Zhejiang.
