Taizhou's permanent population hits 6.71m, urban residents on the rise

Taizhou's permanent population grew to approximately 6.71 million by the end of 2023, marking an increase of 34,000 from the previous year, as reported by the local statistical authority.

The figure was derived from a comprehensive sample survey on population changes conducted by the Taizhou Municipal Bureau of Statistics.

Among the 6.71 million residents, approximately 4.35 million were classified as urban residents, indicating that the urban-rural ratio in the city had reached 64.8 percent, 0.9 percentage points higher than the previous year.

In terms of demographic trends, Taizhou experienced a 0.55 percent birth rate among permanent residents, a decrease of 0.06 percentage points, while the mortality rate rose to 0.76 percent, an uptick of 0.06 percentage points from the previous year.

Wenling, a county-level city, emerged as the most populous administrative area in Taizhou, with a permanent population of 1.44 million, followed by Linhai, another county-level city, with 1.11 million residents. Jiaojiang district, Huangyan district, the county-level city of Yuhuan, Luqiao district, Tiantai county, Xianju county, and Sanmen county followed with populations ranging from 387,000 to 881,000.
