A permanent racecourse named after Chen Penbin, an esteemed extreme marathon runner in China, was unveiled on Dec 24 on Jishan Island, located in Yuhuan, a county-level city in Taizhou.
To mark the occasion, a racing event was held on the same day, attracting over 300 runners from across the nation. The participants embarked on a run against the backdrop of Jishan Island's majestic mountains and picturesque sea, their spirits lifted by the rhythmic symphony of the tides.
Chen Penbin, renowned as the first person to conquer extreme marathons on all seven continents, had shared his vision for a permanent racecourse with his hometown of Jishan back in October, and the track was realized within a mere two months. Spanning a distance of 4.75 kilometers and featuring a cumulative elevation gain of 100 meters, the track offers a challenging yet rewarding experience.
To enhance the runners' experience, unified logos, road signs, and guidance systems have been implemented along the route. The track also incorporates cutting-edge technology through a state-of-the-art smart trail application, providing participants with a comprehensive, technologically advanced, and immersive running experience.
The establishment of this track represents the endeavor of local authorities to facilitate the integration of culture, tourism, and sports. Visitors and running enthusiasts who visit Jishan Island are not only treated to a delightful culinary journey and breathtaking vistas but also have the opportunity to challenge themselves on the "Chen Penbin Track" WeChat mini-program.
"After more than a decade of yearning, my dream of creating a permanent racecourse has finally become a reality," said Chen with a beaming smile. Having witnessed numerous races featuring temporary tracks that imposed significant limitations on runners, Chen recognizes the immense value of permanent racecourses in providing superior and professional services to running enthusiasts.
