Two dramas from Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province, have secured slots at the 18th China Theatre Festival.

My Fanglin Village and The First Ray of Sunshine will be showcased at the festival, marking the first time a Taizhou drama has been selected for this prominent national event.

The 18th China Theatre Festival is set to take place in Hangzhou in November. The event is jointly organized by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, the China Theatre Association, the Hangzhou Municipal People's Government, and the Publicity Department of the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee.

In May, My Fanglin Village premiered at the National Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing, the capital of China. This dramatization of Taizhou Luantan, a traditional local opera with a history dating back nearly 400 years, marks the third performance by the Taizhou Luantan Troupe at the center, following Qi Jiguang and My Dachen Island.

Taizhou Luantan, previously known as Huangyan Luantan, is one of China's 318 opera varieties. In 2016, it was officially recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage item. The opera is performed in the Taizhou dialect using an accent common in Central China and is accompanied by instruments such as the flute, suona, gong, and drum.
