A waxberry project in Taizhou's Huangyan district has recently been honored with the Concept-Analysis & Planning category award at the 2023 World Landscape Architecture Awards.

Spanning an extensive area of 57,800 hectares, the project has successfully created a landscape that combines the plantation and processing of the Dongkui waxberry with local culture. The project was designed by a team led by Zeng Ying, a teacher at the School of Architectural Art of the China Academy of Art.

Not only does the project contribute to the revitalization of rural areas and significantly increase waxberry production, amounting to approximately 225,000 yuan ($31,407) per hectare per year, but it also establishes a mother-tree park for historical, cultural, and technological exchanges related to waxberries.

In addition, the project made its debut at the Venice Biennale, in an independent exhibition focused on Chinese rural areas. This exhibition, jointly planned by internationally renowned architect Ma Qingyun and the Hangzhou-based media company ArchiDogs, opened on May 20 and will run until Nov 26. It aims to showcase innovative Chinese rural practices to a global audience.
