Taizhou in East China's Zhejiang province has been selected as one of 25 localities to build a national key cold chain logistics base, as announced by the National Development and Reform Commission in a recent notice.

It was the only locality in Zhejiang to be selected.

The base will be situated in the Taizhou Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone, which will occupy an area of 835 mu (55.67 hectares) and will consist of two functional areas, one for international markets and the other for regional markets.

The central government will be providing Taizhou with a certain amount of subsidies for the base's construction. By 2025, it is projected that the cold storage area within the base will top 700,000 cubic meters, with an annual trade volume of 500,000 metric tons of agricultural and related products.

Apart from supporting the cold chain logistics industry's growth, the base is expected to yield around 6,000 job opportunities both directly and indirectly.

Taizhou has favorable inventory cold chain equipment conditions, a large cold chain logistics scale, and a medium-to-high-end cold chain logistics supply system, making it an ideal location for the base.

Currently, the city has 22,000 square meters of built-up cold storage area, with a storage capacity of 110,000 cu m. It has also established a complete cold chain logistics service system, which covers agricultural product processing, transportation, storage, and sales.
