Residents of Taizhou in East China's Zhejiang province can now take advantage of a rapid delivery service recently launched by China Railway Express Co Ltd, the cargo delivery arm of China Railway Corp.

The service, which is now available in 100 railway stations in 88 cities including Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin, provides same-day delivery for cargo between cities via the nation's extensive high-speed rail network.

The service was launched to cater to the urgent delivery of business letters, tender contracts, fresh gifts, valuables, urgent medicines and personal items, and orders can be placed via WeChat, a popular social media app.

Delivery within the same city cluster takes an average of 4 hours, while inter-city cluster delivery takes 8 hours on average.

Fees are dependent on cargo weight and delivery distance; for instance, a package weighing less than 5 kilograms delivered within a 600-kilometer distance will cost 150 yuan ($20.94), according to information published on China Railway Express Co Ltd's website.
