Taizhou in East China's Zhejiang province has emerged as a national hub for used car exports, according to a national summit on exports of second-hand cars held in the city on May 31.

The city exported more than 13,000 used cars worth $31.9 million in 2022, a whopping increase of 440.5 percent year-on-year.

It ranked first in both the number of used cars exported and their total export value among the 30 cities that are included in the nation's used car export pilot program.

Taizhou was selected among the first batch of 10 cities and provinces in China to pilot the used car export initiative back in late April 2019.

Currently, 17 companies in Taizhou are permitted to export used cars to nearly 30 countries worldwide, including Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, Egypt, Belgium, and Germany.

In addition to policy support, Taizhou's thriving automobile and auto parts industry, robust private economy and congenial customs services have also bolstered the growth of used car exports.

From January to April, Taizhou exported 3,265 second-hand cars with a combined value of $63.37 million, official statistics show.
