National Track, Field Grand Prix kicks off in Taizhou

The National Track and Field Grand Prix kicked off in Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province, on May 26.

Taizhou, the third leg of the national competition, welcomed 543 athletes from across the nation, who will vie for 47 gold medals during the three-day event.

Yao Jie was among the 14 gold medal winners on the first day, winning the men's pole vault with a height of 5.71 meters.

Tao Yege from Taizhou's Luqiao district won second place in the men's long jump with a new personal best of 7.88m. Another athlete hailing from Luqiao, Feng Lele, born in 2005,  took part in the women's 4×800m relay race for the Zhejiang Team.

Zhejiang took second place, just 5.10 seconds behind the champion. Feng, whose previous record was 2 minutes and 13.8 seconds, said that she will diligently prepare for the Youth Games of China at the end of the year.
