Taizhou's permanent population nears 6.68m

Taizhou had a permanent population of about 6.68 million as of the end of 2022, 17,000 more than the previous year, according to the Taizhou Municipal Bureau of Statistics.

Of the 6.68 million people, about 4.27 million were urban residents, meaning the ratio of urban-rural residents in the city was 63.9 percent, an uptick of 1.3 percentage points from a year earlier.

Last year, Taizhou's birth rate among permanent residents was 0.61 percent, down by 0.08 percentage points, while the mortality rate was 0.7 percent, rising by 0.02 percentage points. 

The county-level city of Wenling, the most populous administrative area in Taizhou, had a permanent population of 1.42 million. It was followed by the county-level city of Linhai (1.11 million), Jiaojiang district (858,000), Huangyan district (712,000), the county-level city of Yuhuan (652,000), Luqiao district (640,000), Tiantai county (470,000), Xianju county (430,000) and Sanmen county (379,000).
