A 22,500-ton bulk carrier was launched in Songmen town, Wenling, a county-level city in Taizhou, on Feb 23.

Named Jiahang Anshun, the ship was built by Wenling-based Zhejiang Tianshi Shipbuilding Co Ltd. The company took just seven months to build the vessel.

Measuring 155 meters in length, 23 meters in width and 12.6 meters in height, the ship is powered by a 3,906-kilowatt propulsion system and has a capacity of 22,500 metric tons. It will be used to transport bulk cargo like grain, coal and building materials to ports in China.

The ship's owner said that the Jiahang Anshun is the third bulk carrier he has ordered from Wenling as he seeks to meet growing market demands following the strong recovery of sea-born shipping sector in the past two years.

Founded in May 2004, Zhejiang Tianshi Shipbuilding Co Ltd rose to fame as the builder of Chinese deep-sea explorer ship Zhang Jian and several catamaran research vehicles.

The shipbuilder has in recent years seen a great improvement in its production efficiency due to technological upgrading. For example, the construction period of a ship, which used to take a year, has now been reduced to seven months.

Liu Chenghui, the head of office at Tianshi, revealed that the company's sales volume topped 280 million yuan ($40.4 million) in 2022 and that it has received orders for four bulk carriers and two container ships so far this year.
