Taizhou's Tiantai county was recently included in a provincial pilot program which aims to facilitate common prosperity by leveraging intangible cultural heritage.

Presently, Tiantai is home to 144 intangible cultural heritages items above the county-level, with 46 percent being traditional craft skills.

Industries developed based on some of the skills have been booming in Tiantai and are now important driving forces fueling rural vitalization.

Authorities, for example, have been actively exploring local tourism development by promoting the preparation techniques of Yunwu tea, a famous variety of tea in the county.

The sealwort industry developed by combining modern technologies with the traditional processing of the medical herb, which has been listed as a municipal intangible cultural heritage item, has registered fast growth in Tiantai.

Apart from sealwort, the processing of another medical herb - the root of three-nerved spicebush - has also emerged as a local pillar segment. The planation area of this herb currently spans 3,000 mu (200 hectares).

Brewing honqu wine is a unique technique in Tiantai as well. Also known as red rice wine, the aromatic spirit was named as such because of the use of red yeast, also known as fermentum rubrum.

Official data show the annual output volume of hongqu wine in Tiantai amounts to more than 5,000 metric tons worth over 30 million yuan ($4.35 million).
