Two places in Taizhou - Luqiao district and Xianju county - recently made the list of the second group of national model counties in the popularization of science, local media reported.

A total of 15 counties (county-level cities and districts) in Zhejiang won the honor conferred by the China Association for Science and Technology.

More than 70 venues have been built to facilitate the popularization of science in Luqiao. A campaign launched by the district has taught more than 52,200 seniors to use digital gadgets, official data show.

Xianju excels in leveraging the internet to popularize science. The county has inaugurated the nation's first college to popularize science related to waxberries. The facility has been also serving as a think tank for local waxberry farmers.

Authorities also initiated a campaign which invited more than 22,000 people to take part in the popularization of science.

The Home of Academicians in Zhejiang, a facility designed to accommodate top-tier talent, was inaugurated in Xianju in September 2020, with more than 600 science popularization having been held there to date.
