17 Taizhou villages receive provincial honor

Seventeen villages in Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province have been recognized provincially for their efforts to become beautiful and livable villages, according to an announcement by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development on Jan 4.

One hundred and seventy-eight villages in the province were conferred the honor.

Here are some of the city's beautiful and livable villages.

Choulu village

Huangyan district's Choulu village, which boasts abundant bamboo, has in recent years been making efforts to renovate its ancient walls, buildings and abandoned flower beds to improve the living environment and develop its rural tourism.

Yicheng village

Yicheng village in Linhai, a county-level city in Taizhou, has been focusing its efforts on treating rivers, renovating ancient alleys and holding cultural activities to develop its tourism.

The village, dubbed "the hometown of Yueju opera", is home to the Yueju Opera Museum, which displays its history and cultural achievements.

Lingkeng village

Tiantai county's Lingkeng village, which was built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), is a great place to enjoy the architecture of an ancient village in the Jiangnan region, the area south of the Yangtze River.
