A rooftop photovoltaic project funded by a subsidiary of Chinese automaker Geely Group in Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang was put into operation on Dec 30.

The 200-million-yuan ($28.57 million) facility has an installed capacity of 39.3 megawatts, the largest in Zhejiang.

The project will have 350,000 square meters of photovoltaic panels that can generate 39.56 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.

The first phase of the project, which has a capacity of 19.79 megawatts, is currently in  service.

Compared to a thermal power plant with the same gross electricity generation capacity, the photovoltaic project can reduce the annual usage of standard coal by 324,400 metric tons and carbon dioxide emissions by 986,200 tons over a 25-year period.
