Some intangible cultural heritage items from Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province will be featured in an episode of a program that will be broadcast on Channel 1 of the China Central Television at 8:00 pm on Dec 30.
The episode, which features scenes of the city's Jiazhi Old Street, will showcase intangible cultural heritage items such as Taizhou embroidery, Huangsha lion dance and Fanhuang bamboo carving.
Fanhuang bamboo carving, which originated in Taizhou’s Huangyan district during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), is unique because the carving is done on the inner lining of a bamboo stem. In 2008, the technique was designated a national intangible cultural heritage item.
Huangsha lion dance, which can be traced back to the Song Dynasty (960-1279), was also listed as a national intangible cultural heritage item in 2006.
The most important feature of Huangsha lion dance is that it combines folk martial arts with the traditional lion dance.
