China Media Group will stage a gala in Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province, on the evening of Dec 31 to welcome the New Year. 

This will be the second time the event is staged in Taizhou, with the first being in 2021.

Taizhou was selected mainly because it was the first place on the Chinese mainland to welcome the new millennium. Light represents brightness and hope, and symbolizes a bright 2023, according to the organizing committee. 

The event will be broadcast live on various CCTV channels and Taizhou local media platforms starting from 8:00 pm on Dec 31.
