Wengdu Water City, a tourism complex that comprises a large water park, a hot spring resort and a hotel broke ground in Xianju county, Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province on Sept 18.

The 2-billion-yuan ($307.69 million) project spans 420 mu (28 hectares) and is expected to be put into operation next summer, according to its preliminary construction plan.

Xianju signed a cooperation agreement with the project developer in July after several rounds of negotiations as well as inspections of the developer's other projects in places including Beijing and Qiandaohu.

The tourism complex will inject new vitality to the Shenxianju Tourism Resort, experts said.

Shenxainju Tourism Resort is a provincial tourism resort established in 2003. As its name suggests, it is home to Shenxianju, a national 5A scenic spot.
