Construction of the new terminal tower of Taizhou Airport in East China's Zhejiang province is expected to be completed in June 2023, local media reported.

After completion, the airport will see a five-fold increase in size, making it capable of handling 2.5 million passengers annually, according to Li Xiaoyong, an engineer at China Construction Eighth Engineering Division Co Ltd, the airport expansion project's undertaker.

Taizhou started the expansion of Taizhou Airport in December 2019.

A 2,500-meter-long and 44-meter-wide taxiway, a 35,000-square-meter terminal tower, 16 aircraft stands, and other supporting facilities, including an air traffic control building, will be added to the airport, according to the construction plan.

The airport will be positioned as a medium-sized international airport in the southeastern coast of Zhejiang province, according to the civil aviation development plan for the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period recently released by the provincial government.
