Taizhou in East China's Zhejiang province has achieved remarkable accomplishments since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, local government said recently at a news conference.

The private sector, which contributes to the lion's share of the city's economy, has shown strong vitality over the past 10 years, said officials.

The city currently has 21 industry clusters with an annual output value of 10 billion yuan ($1.54 billion), and is home to 68 national industrial bases that hold the largest shares in their niche markets at home and abroad, official statistics show.

From 2012 to 2021, the number of listed companies in Taizhou increased from 23 to 66, the fourth largest among prefecture-level cities nationwide.

The city's private investment also surged from 68.33 billion yuan to 144.52 billion yuan over the same period.

Taizhou has also been a pioneer in reform and opening up. Its foreign trade volume surpassed 200 billion yuan in 2021.

Taizhou has opened shipping routes to countries including Vietnam, New Zealand and the United States and launched freight train routes to Europe.

Despite its focus on economic growth, the city has not neglected environmental protection.

Taizhou has posted excellent results in air quality, water control, marine waste treatment and soil pollution treatment. The city has been ranked among the top three in Zhejiang in terms of ecological conditions for seven years in a row.

The city has also been listed among the happiest cities in China for the sixth time, thanks to efforts made by local government to improve people's livelihoods.
