The introduction of top-tier talents to the workforce has injected new vitality to the mountainous county of Xianju, Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province, according to local media reports.

The Home of Academicians in Taizhou, a facility designed to accommodate top-tier talent, was inaugurated in Xianju in September 2020.

To date, 86 academicians have visited the facility located in the core area of Shenxianju, a national 5A scenic spot. Among them, one has started a business in Xianju and 10 have reached cooperative agreements with local government bodies and enterprises.

For example, Qian Qian, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and an expert in rice seed resources, has helped raise Xianju's rice output volume and quality by partnering with local agro-technological promotional center.

Yangfengshan village is among the beneficiaries of this rice industrial development project tailored made for Xianju.

The price of rice produced from the village has risen from the original 5 yuan ($0.92) per kilogram to the current 20-30 yuan per kilogram due to its improved quality.

Xianju exemplifies Taizhou's long-term efforts in facilitating innovation-driven development by bringing in high-profile talents.

Earlier this year, Taizhou was shortlisted as a national innovation-driven city by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
