The recent establishment of a sports park in Baxi has turned the once sleepy village into a bustling tourism destination.

Located in Pingqiao town, Taizhou's Tiantai county, the park has generated more than 1.5 million yuan ($230,769) in revenue since its inauguration in January.

The park's first phase was built on an idle piece land at a cost of 3 million yuan. This 25-mu (1.67 hectares) area consists of facilities including a go-karting venue, a swing bridge and a zip line.

Thirty percent of the project's investment was raised by villagers who each contributed 10,000 yuan. This means they are entitled to dividends generated by the project. Some villagers have also managed to land jobs in the park.

Wang Qin, a resident of Baxi village, is among those who now work in the park. Thanks to this job, he now draws a monthly salary of 4,000 yuan - a steady stream of income he never had before.

To boost common prosperity, 5 percent of the project's profits will be distributed to low-income farmers.

Seeing how successful the first phase has been, planning of the park's second phase, which will feature a cross country vehicle venue and water entertainment facilities, will soon commence, according to Wang Linhui, Party chief of the village.

In addition to the sports park, the village has built amusement facilities for rafting, football, hiking and table tennis.
