Taizhou in East China's Zhejiang province has been pursuing rural vitalization in recent years as part of its broader push to support the province's common prosperity campaign.
The Zhang'an sub-district in Taizhou's Jiaojiang district is one place that exemplifies the city's achievements in rural vitalization.
One approach taken by the sub-district to seek rural development is transferring land from residents and developing rural tourism.
Shuangyan village is one such example.
The village has built a lotus pond spanning more than 80 mu (5.3 hectares) and a snack street to attract visitors. These two areas have generated 28,000 yuan ($4,307) in collective income and created a dozen jobs for locals.
Over in Qianjie village, authorities are developing a camping site where visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of Taizhou. As the villagers have paid for about half of the cost of setting up the camping site, they will be entitled to half of the revenue generated, according to Yang Lin, Party chief of the village.
Besides the camping site, Qianjie village has developed tourism projects including flower-themed attractions and light shows.
Authorities have also been facilitating industrial upgrading to bolster its common prosperity efforts.
For example, the local government has invested 120 million yuan in the building of a 36-mu commercial complex to upgrade the family workshops in Zhang'an sub-district's Dongdai village, which is renowned for its embroidered garment production.
The complex, which currently houses over 230 stores, including businesses that offer services related to e-commerce, live streaming and logistics, has an annual output value of over 400 million yuan.
