Sanmen county in Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province has been establishing workshops to help low-income residents find jobs near home.

The move comes as part of local authorities' efforts to bolster common prosperity.

A government-funded textile processing workshop located in Xianghe village, Haiyou sub-district is one such example.

"Most of the workers in the workshop are villagers who live nearby. The workplace's proximity to their home allows them to earn some money while taking care of their families," said Li Lingling, an employee at the workshop.

According to Li, the workplace has been offering vocational training to them regularly, and a skilled worker can earn up to 5,000 yuan ($769.23) per month.

Chen Fu, the person in charge of the workshop, said that the workshop has created jobs for more than 300 residents who live in the area. Some of these residents even get to work from home.

Sanmen has inaugurated 35 such workshops, most of which perform agricultural product processing and manual crafting, in 10 towns and sub-districts so far this year.

One of these workshops is specially catered to disadvantaged people in the city. On top of their salaries, these individuals are also entitled to benefits including government subsidies and free lunches.

Zheng Yongjun, deputy director of the Sanmen rural revitalization promotion center, said that the construction of these workshops is an effective means to promoting the development of rural industries and increasing the incomes of farmers.

Zheng expects the workshop campaign to create jobs for 10,000 people and increase the income of each household by 10,000 yuan this year.
