Taizhou Open University was inaugurated in Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province on May 7, local media reported.

The university was formerly known as Taizhou Radio and Television University, which was founded in 1979.

According to Wang Huanbin, Party chief of Taizhou Open University, the newly established university will offer lifelong education and leverage digital technologies in the teaching process.

In addition, the school will provide vocational trainings for farmers in an effort to bridge the urban-rural development gap.

Nearly 18,000 farmers have graduated from the school over a decade. This year, it has also gotten involved in a citywide campaign which aims to offer training to three million farmers in five years.

Taizhou Open University has also cooperated with the Taizhou Municipal Women's Federation to set up a family education service center in the city.

Wang pledged that the school will strive to become a first-class open university at the municipal level.
