The plate-unveiling ceremony for the Taizhou Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone was held in Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province, on April 29.

Located on the central coast of Zhejiang, the zone boasts strong transportation infrastructure and abundant marine resources and is positioned to become a world-class manufacturing hub for automobiles and parts, new materials and crude drugs.

In June 2021, the Toumengang Economic Development Zone was renamed the Taizhou Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone and was upgraded to a national economic development zone.

As a key part of the zone, the Toumengang port has seen robust development in recent years.

In 2021, the port's cargo throughput registered a yearly uptick of 63 percent. With its expansion, the port's cargo and container processing capacities are projected to surpass 20 million metric tons and 100,000 TEUs, respectively, by 2025.

The economic development zone built around the port has already become a hotspot for investment, and its designation as a national-level facility will further increase its attractiveness to investors.
