A-level scenic spots in Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province welcomed about 2.04 million visitors during the Spring Festival holiday, which ran from Jan 31 to Feb 6, generating more than 31.36 million yuan ($4.82 million) in tourism revenue, according to official data.

Locals accounted for 80.7 percent of the visitors and this is largely due to the current pandemic situation and the cold weather, according to the Taizhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Tourism and Sports.

Trips to enjoy snowy views and experience ice and snow sports were among the most popular during this period, with Tiantai Mountain a big hit among tourists.

To cope with the spike in visitor numbers, Tiantai Mountain launched shuttle buses to transport visitors to ski resorts and its peak for snow viewing.

More than 6,000 people were transported by the buses, according to a person in charge of the Tiantai Mountain Tourism Group.

In addition, rural scenic spots including Wuyantou village and Shangzhantou village remained popular destinations among visitors during the holiday.

No complaints related to culture and tourism consumption were received by local authorities during the seven-day period.

Non-local employees who pay social security in Taizhou were able to apply for free or discounted admission tickets to 41 scenic spots across the city if they opted to stay in the city during the Spring Festival holiday.
