Taizhou's innovation capabilities have improved greatly in recent years thanks to the robust development of local innovation platforms.

In the past year, the Taizhou Research Institute of Zhejiang University and Taizhou Biomedicine Industry Research Institute Co Ltd were designated as new provincial R&D organs.

The R&D funds acquired by the Taizhou Research Institute of Zhejiang University exceeded 50 million yuan ($7.69 million) for the second year in a row.

Last year, Taizhou Biomedicine Industry Research Institute Co Ltd applied for eight national invention patents and reached agreements worth over 1 billion yuan with nearly 80 biomedicine companies.

In addition, the Taizhou branch of the Zhejiang-California International Nanosystems Institute won second place in the Zhejiang Science and Technology Progress Awards.

A plumbing valve service platform built by the Yangtze River Delta (Taizhou) Research Institute of Tsinghua University was also listed among the first provincial digital economy projects in Zhejiang.

In addition, an innovation center inaugurated by Peking University in the city's Taizhou Bay New Area was shortlisted to become a national public makerspace.
