Changtan Reservoir in Taizhou's Huangyan district was recently listed among candidates for the top 10 most beautiful water conservation projects in East China's Zhejiang province.
Occupying 35.5 square kilometers, the reservoir has a water capacity of 732 million cubic meters, 80 times the capacity of the West Lake.
In October 1958, construction started on the Changtan reservoir, which is the largest irrigation storage in Zhejiang province.
In 1964, construction was completed. It has since become an important water source for more than three million residents and one million mu (66,666.7 hectares) of farmland in southern Taizhou.
In addition to supplying water to Taizhou, the reservoir also undertakes functions spanning flood control, irrigation, and power generation.
