Taizhou in East China's Zhejiang province ranked 20th in China in terms of attractiveness to talents in 2020, according to a report recently released by Ren Zeping, chief economist of Chinese property developer Evergrande, and Zhilian Recruitment, a major Chinese recruitment website.

Beijing topped the ranking, followed by Hangzhou, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou, Chengdu, Ningbo, and Changsha.

About 40 percent of job seekers in China are migrant workers, which refers to people looking for jobs in places where they do not reside, 2.3 percent less than that of 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the report noted.

The nation's Yangtze River Delta region and Pearl River Delta region reported a net inflow of talents, while its Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region saw an outflow of talents.

In recent years, Taizhou has emerged as a magnet for global talents.

Official data show that more than 70,000 college graduates have been attracted to work in Taizhou in the first 11 months of 2020.

Strong financial support has been put in place in Taizhou. Currently, the city has set up a fund worth 500 million yuan ($76.92 million) to bolster technical innovation and allocated over 1 billion yuan to support entrepreneurship.

To date, a total of 46 academicians, including Yuan Longping, a leading agricultural scientist known as "the father of hybrid rice" in China, and Li Lanjuan, a renowned epidemiologist, have settled in facilities to accommodate top-tier talents in the city.
