Three snacks and two dishes from Taizhou recently took home gold at a provincial rural culinary competition in Zhejiang province.

The three snacks were Huangyan puffed glutinous rice coated with brown sugar, Yuyqingzai burrito, and fish skin wontons, while the two dishes were Xianxiang rice paddy duck and Shabu taros.

Winners in the dish category were selected based on online voting and professional reviews. Entries' scale and brand influence were also taken into consideration in the snack category.

Xianxiang rice paddy duck is a dish made from ducks raised in paddy fields in Taizhou's Xianju county. The duck is usually stewed with Chinese herbal medicine.

In addition to the aforementioned snacks, there are plenty of other snacks worth trying in Taizhou.

One example is Danqing Yangwei, a specialty pastry from Linhai, a county-level city in Taizhou. It is made with egg whites and sweetened bean paste and once made a list of the top 100 local snacks in Zhejiang.
